KOTA BARU: Pas spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said yesterday that he would not condemn any DAP leaders for insulting Islam as he believed that their understanding of the religion was not deep enough.
The Kelantan menteri besar also said he would not object to or criticise any statements given by DAP leaders as the party was not an Islamic party.
He, however, put the blame for the controversy involving DAP leaders on the attitude of certain Muslim leaders.
"They (the Muslim leaders) do not have a religious background and only take Islam as a simple subject.
"They do not realise that their statements have led to the 'pollution' of the religion," he told reporters after a state exco meeting yesterday.
He said these were the people who were actually the betrayers.
He said because of this, Pas would explain to the DAP leaders about Islam through its ceramah and forums so that the DAP leaders could have a better understanding of the religion.
Asked about certain parties who have labelled Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a betrayer of the Malay race, Nik Aziz said he did not agree with the remark.
"If they are not satisfied with the policy of a party, they should attack the party, not individuals." - NST.
