IPOH, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Opposition party leaders have been urged to stop their political propaganda to prevent the people from being influenced and have a negative thinking toward their own country.
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said they should change their approach to political democracy to discuss issues on knowledge and correct information so that the nation could compete globally.
"We can't play with political propaganda by raising issues which can't be proven as it hurt peoples' feelings," he told reporters after opening the Tambun Barisan Nasional (BN) mobile service centre here today.
The Umno treasurer said political isues discussed should be based on knowledge and correct information which could upgrade the peoples' maturity.
Meanwhile, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Azian Osman said action by some Malay leaders who were willing to compromise the rights of their own race for political gain was a betrayal of the party's struggle.
"Ipoh Timur Umno division supports the statement by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin labelling Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a traitor of his own race," he said after the Umno divisional meeting here Sunday.
Azian who is also Ipoh Timur Umno division chief also slammed PAS spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat for letting oppposition party leaders attack his own race. -- BERNAMA
