PUTRAJAYA: Islamic College Darul Ridwan rector Datuk Professor Dr Mohammed Yusoff Hussain yesterday hit out at Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat over his statement that the Islam practised by Umno would not go to heaven.
Mohammed Yusoff, formerly Federal Territory mufti, said Nik Aziz had deviated from the true teachings of Islam.
"He had no right to say who will go to hell or heaven. It is all in the hands of Allah.
"He is playing God, simply because he wants to protect his political and party interests, that is all."

Mohammed Yusoff urged Nik Aziz, who is also Kelantan menteri besar, to return to the right path and the teachings of Islam.
In a short audio recording by TV3 in Bulletin Utama on Thursday, Nik Aziz had said Umno failed to practise the true teachings of Islam.
"The Islam propagated by Umno is a frightful one, like plastic Islam, like counterfeit currency, like fake medicine and spurious food."
Nik Aziz also said Umno's version of Islam could not be taken to the hereafter.
"Their Islam cannot be taken to the hereafter, cannot go to heaven, can only be taken to the grave..."
Nik Aziz made the statement on Monday in Permatang Pasir.
Mohammed Yusoff added that there was something very wrong with Nik Aziz when he came up with such a statement.
"He is too influenced by Pas' politics, not true Islamic teachings. Do not politicise religion for the sake of the party and self-interest. The National Fatwa Council itself is against such as a statement.
"Nik Aziz, as a Muslim, must realise his mistakes and repent." - NST.
