BUKIT MERTAJAM: Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged Umno Youth to closely monitor electoral rolls when they are put up for display in future by the Election Commission (EC).
The Deputy Prime Minister said this was necessary as the wing had failed to identify some 3,000 voters in the Permatang Pasir by-election.
Muhyiddin said that although the EC had said that such voters were genuine because they had registered, there was a need to further examine the matter.
He said allegations about phantom voters were not new and it must be studied by the EC and all political parties.
“I think when the EC comes up with the new electoral roll and puts it up for display, Umno Youth must screen the rolls.
“This is the period when any party can lodge a complaint to the EC,” he said after visiting polling stations in the by-election yesterday. - The Star
