Manik Urai Residents To Break Fast With PM On Sept 7

KUALA KRAI, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will join residents of Manik Urai at a breaking of fast on Sept 7.

Kelantan Umno liaison chief Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said the function to be held at the MARA Junior Science College (MRSM), here, would be attended by about 10,000 residents.

"The prime minister's presence is in appreciation of the support given by Manik Urai voters during the by-election last month," he told reporters after meeting with officers and staff of the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar), here, Sunday.

In the by-election on July 14, PAS candidate Mohd Fauzi Abdullah defeated Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat from Barisan Nasional with a slight majority of 65 votes.

"Although BN lost, it was a moral boost for BN," he said.

Mustapa, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, said Najib would also deliver a briefing on development to be carried out in Manik Urai.

He said that since January, the federal government had allocated RM12 million to implement various development projects in Manik Urai.

"Some of them are through the Education Department, Health Department and Public Works Department," said Mustapa, adding that this did not include RM1.5 million for repairing the homes of 500 poor residents in the constituency.

"Several new bridges have been constructed such as the Bunut Saeh bridge and Sungai Gajah bridge, and roads have also been tarred."

Mustapa said the federal government would keep its promises made during the by-election and not neglect Manik Urai. -- BERNAMA
