KUDAT, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Opportunists who jeopardise public order and create racial tension are traitors and should be opposed completely, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said Malaysia, which is unique because of its plural society, was enjoying peace because of the policy adopted several decades ago by past leaders and this policy must be upheld.
"Malaysia has become a model nation because although we have diversity in culture, we have a strong sense of unity. Now, we are striving to strengthen the economy, improve social education, health, rural infrastructure, and schools especially in Sabah.
"We want to continue (development efforts), others should not try to create disputes...The agenda on national development is most important, nothing else is more important," said Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president, when opening the Kudat and Kota Marudu Umno divisional delegates conference, here on Sunday.
He said the situation in the country currently was good under the leadership of Prime inister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said Najib could discharge his heavy responsibilities effectively where he had also taken several measures to highlight new policies and approaches which had been well received by the people, especially in Sabah.
"The 1Malaysia concept has already been accepted by Malaysians as an important initiative in promoting cooperation and solidarity, and beginning to be understood and appreciated by the people.
"This is an indicator...Our leader wants to see the country remaining peaceful and does not want chaos, the focus is on efforts to maintain continuity in development," he said. -- BERNAMA
